Alberto Roper Pol

I am currently a research group leader with an SNSF Ambizione grant at the Geneva Cosmology group at the University of Geneva — see my profile. At UniGe, I am the PI of an SNSF Ambizione grant 208807 exploring the early Universe with gravitational waves and primordial magnetic fields. See my research group for details.

I will start an assistant professor position at the Institute of Theoretical Physics at TU Wien in 2027.

My research lies at the intersection of numerical simulations and theoretical modeling of the primordial plasma in the early Universe, focusing on the production of gravitational waves and the generation and dynamics of primordial magnetic fields. For more details, see my research interests.

I am a core member of the LISA and the European Pulsar Timing Array collaborations, searching for beyond-the-Standard-Model new physics with current and future observations of stochastic gravitational wave backgrounds.

I am an active developer of open-source codes like Pencil Code and CosmoLattice, used to study numerically the production of gravitational waves in the early Universe (among other applications). I am also the main developer of the Python package CosmoGW.

In my free time, I enjoy all types of outdoor sports, especially hiking, cycling, and skiing, so you can find me in the mountains when I am not working.

Before moving to Geneva in 2022, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the theory group of the APC institute in Paris.

I received my PhD from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2020, where I moved in 2015 with a Balsells fellowship to conduct my graduate studies. In Colorado, I was a researcher at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics and at the Ann and H.J. Smead Aerospace Engineering Sciences department.
